Colorado Christian men’s and women’s cross country teams opened their season Saturday, running in six and nine team meets at the Colorado College Invitational in Colorado Springs. Caleb Matthewson led the Cougar men in the 8K event, posting a time of 28:33 and finishing 36th out of 86 teams that included the host Tigers, Northern Colorado, Oklahoma Panhandle State, Fort Hays State and Colorado School of Mines. Matthewson’s time marked a personal-best for the Cougars senior, who shattered his previous best by over a minute and a half. Reece Landenberger (29:05, 44), Nathan Williams (30:12, 60), Tim Kruger (32:32, 79), and Luke Holocher (33:12, 82) rounded out the showing for the Cougars, who don’t race again until October 2.
